Rising geopolitical tensions across the Middle East intensified on Friday following sharp exchanges between Masoud Pezeshkian and Donald Trump, alongside fresh military developments involving Iran and Israel.
President Pezeshkian condemned what he described as a United States naval blockade of Iranian ports, calling it an “extension of military operations” and warning that such actions are “intolerable.”
In a pointed response, Trump suggested the possibility of renewed conflict, stating that “we might need” to restart war with Iran.
He added that details of ongoing engagements remain tightly controlled, saying, “nobody knows what the talks are except myself and a couple of other people.”
Meanwhile, security concerns heightened in Tehran as Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported air defence systems were activated to counter what authorities described as “small aircraft and reconnaissance drones.”
The developments underscore growing fears of surveillance or potential strikes in Iranian airspace.
Elsewhere in the region, violence escalated along Israel’s northern border. According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed more than 30 people within a single day, raising fresh doubts about the durability of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese government.
In a separate development, Israeli authorities confirmed plans to transfer 175 activists linked to the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla to Greek custody.
The group had been intercepted in international waters, more than 1,000 kilometres from Gaza, prompting international criticism over the legality and scope of Israel’s actions.
The latest incidents reflect a widening level of instability across the region, with diplomatic channels strained.
