The author of a controversial nursery school textbook has reacted after a young mother raised concerns about a disturbing story her 5-years-old child was asked to read.
The issue had earlier gone viral after the mother questioned the content of the book, sparking debates about what children are being taught in schools.
According to her, a particular section of the book did not sit well with her as a parent, as she believed it could negatively affect a young child’s understanding. This prompted her to speak out publicly, while also alleging threats to her life.
Reacting to the development, he said:
“I’m not a social media type. The lady didn’t buy the book on social media. My number and address are on the book; she couldn’t reach me through any of those means, but she chose to go to social media to discredit my work and my book.
She’s too small for me to explain to — she was not born when I started teaching. However, there is nothing wrong with my book story.”
The author insisted that the story in question is appropriate and maintained that his work should not be criticised publicly without proper engagement.
His response has further fueled the ongoing conversation, with many Nigerians divided over the content and his reaction to the mother’s concerns.
Many reactions have followed his response. One user wrote, “This response no make sense at all 😒,” while another added, “Ego too much for this response. Parents have every right to question school materials.”
