A Nigerian man has sparked widespread concern online after narrating his experience with a Point of Sale (POS) agent who allegedly denied a successful transaction despite his account being debited.
The incident, shared on social media, has since gone viral, drawing reactions from users who say similar situations have become increasingly common across the country.
Confusion Over “Failed” Transaction
According to the man, the incident occurred when he approached a POS agent to withdraw ₦10,000. He was informed that the total charge would be ₦10,200, which he accepted.
He explained that after inserting his card and entering his PIN, he completed the transaction as instructed on the machine.
However, immediately after he pressed enter, the agent reportedly pulled out his card and claimed the transaction had failed due to network issues.
“She said, ‘e no go, na network,’” he wrote.
Despite the agent’s claim, the man said he quickly checked his bank account and discovered that the ₦10,000 had already been deducted.
Tension Builds as Crowd Gathers
The situation reportedly escalated when he confronted the agent with proof of the debit.
Instead of resolving the issue immediately, the agent allegedly insisted that the transaction was unsuccessful and raised her voice, drawing attention from bystanders.
The man said the crowd began to view him with suspicion, as though he was attempting to deceive the agent.
“I just stood there, not even knowing what to do next,” he recounted.
After about 10 minutes of heated exchange, the agent eventually handed over the cash without offering any apology.
