Leaders from Abia South Senatorial District, under the aegis of the Abia South Political Forum, have declared that Obingwa Local Government Area should not produce the next senator in the 2027 general elections, insisting on fairness and equitable power rotation across the zone.
The resolution was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held on April 29, 2026, in Obingwa, where political leaders and elders deliberated on the future of the district’s senatorial representation.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the forum stated that Obingwa has held the senatorial position for nearly two decades through Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, and must now уступ the seat to other local government areas that have yet to benefit from the position.
According to the group, the continued dominance of a single LGA undermines the principles of equity, justice, and inclusiveness.
Stakeholder from Aba South, Mr. Chukwudi Dike, alongside other leaders, stressed the need for collective agreement among political elders to support candidates from marginalized LGAs, noting that it is time to correct longstanding imbalances.

Similarly, Mr. Chidiebere Ihenyirimmadu, a stakeholder from Obingwa, called for unity among leaders, urging them to back any credible candidate from the “denied” LGAs who emerges through their party processes.
“Senator Abaribe has done 19 years and should step aside for others to run. We must agree as elders to support candidates from areas that have not had the opportunity,” he said.
The forum also rejected any attempt by aspirants from Obingwa to contest the 2027 senatorial seat, describing such ambitions as divisive and contrary to the collective interest of Abia South.
Hon. Chigozie Chimaraoke, another stakeholder from Obingwa, reaffirmed the group’s stance, warning that any move to undermine the resolution would be resisted.
The leaders unanimously endorsed Aba North Local Government Area to produce the next senator, describing the decision as a step toward restoring balance and ensuring justice for underrepresented parts of the district.
They further called on all stakeholders and residents of Abia South to support the zoning arrangement, warning that any deviation would be considered a betrayal of the zone’s unity and progress.
The communique, signed by key members of the forum including Hon. Chigozie, Elder Stanley, Hon. Nwajun, Hon. Princewill, and Mr. Edward, described the resolution as a binding position of Abia South leaders.
Political observers say the declaration may set the stage for heightened political contestation in the district as the 2027 elections approach.
