As the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State draws near, Governor Ademola Adeleke has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC posted to the state to remain law-abiding, neutral, and committed to the rules guiding the service.
Adeleke, who reminded the corps members of the non-partisanship of the scheme, also urged them to conduct themselves in manners that reflect discipline, responsibility, and respect for constituted authority.
This charge was contained in the address he delivered during the swearing in and opening ceremony of the 2026 Batch A, Stream II orientation programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation camp, Ede on Thursday.
He said, “As you may be aware, Osun State will be approaching a significant democratic exercise with the forthcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for August. While this period is important in our democratic journey, I urge you all to remain law-abiding, neutral, and committed to the rules guiding your service. The NYSC Scheme is a non-partisan institution, and you are expected to conduct yourselves in a manner that reflects discipline, responsibility, and respect for constituted authority.
“I assure you that Osun State remains a peaceful, accommodating, and culturally rich environment where you can live, learn, and contribute meaningfully to society.
“To our dear Corps members, I wish to emphasise that the Government and good people of Osun State are hospitable, peace-loving, and supportive. You will find our communities receptive and willing to collaborate with you in the course of your primary assignments and community development service. I encourage you to integrate with your host communities, respect local customs and traditions, and contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the State.”
He also assured the corps members of adequate security as his administration has put in place measures to ensure a safe and conducive environment throughout their service year.
“Let me assure you that the security of all Corps members remains a top priority for this administration. Necessary measures have been put in place in collaboration with security agencies to ensure a safe and conducive environment throughout your stay in the State. You are, however, advised to be vigilant and to always adhere to security guidelines as provided by the NYSC authorities.
“I encourage you to see this service year as a unique opportunity to contribute to nation-building, develop yourselves, and build lasting relationships. Let your conduct throughout the service year reflect the ideals of the NYSC Scheme: patriotism, integrity, discipline, and selfless service.”
Responding in his address, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Ekeng Ita Kubiangha also admonished the corps members to remain neutral, professional, and law-abiding at all times.
He warned the corps members against engaging in partisan politics or any activity that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process or your personal safety.
He said, “As you settle into camp activities, it is important to draw your attention to the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Osun State. As Corps Members, you may be called upon to serve as adhoc personnel in the electoral process.
“While this is a noble national assignment, you are expected to remain neutral, professional, and law-abiding at all times. You must not engage in partisan politics or any activity that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process or your personal safety.”
Kubiangha revealed that a total number of 2600 corps members comprising 1200 males and 1400 females were deployed to the state for the service year.
He explained that the delay in the opening ceremony in Osun State was due renovations in the orientation camp which necessitated a slight adjustment in the Orientation Course schedule for Osun State compared to other states.
He also appreciated the state government and other stakeholders for being friends of the scheme in the state.
The Osun NYSC boss urged the corps members to be security conscious at all times and to adhere strictly to all camp rules and regulations and also to keep the NYSC authorities informed of their whereabouts.
