Senator Kabir Garba Marafa Wednesday ordered all his supporters and well-meaning people of Zamfara state to immediately dump the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and register with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Marafa warned that the new Electoral Act would be weaponised by government to stop ADC from contesting the 2027 elections.
The directive was contained in a public message delivered by Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako, chairman of the Senator Kabir Garba Marafa Supporters Group.
He stated that registration is mandatory under the new electoral law to attend meetings, to vote in our primaries, and to stand firmly with us as a full member.
“Without that registration, you cannot play any real role inside the NDC. So do not let this chance slip away,” he said.
Mai Katako said the move was not out of malice towards ADC.
He further said that the multitude of problems that the ADC party is currently facing have been made worse and more complicated by the provisions of the new electoral law that INEC is now using.
He said: “The government of the day will use all their powers, all their legal tricks under this new law to stop ADC from participating in the election.”
“They will file court cases, they will challenge candidates, they will look for small mistakes to disqualify the party entirely.”
He cited Nafiu Bala as an agent of the government allegedly used to frustrate the ADC.
Mai Katako said Marafa chose NDC because the NDC is clean, the NDC is stable, the NDC has no court cases threatening its existence and the government cannot easily use the new electoral law to push NDC out of the election.
“A wise person does not wait inside a burning house just because he likes the house, a wise person runs out to save his life,” he added.
